Championship Highlights
In the Women’s Division, Alotau 1 thrilled the home crowd with a determined 41–32 victory over Kerema Women, securing the championship title on home soil. Kikori Women, after a strong campaign, claimed third place. The standout player, Venellma Toukma of Alotau 1, was named Finals MVP for her leadership and key plays during the grand final.

On the Men’s side, it was an all-Kikori showdown with Kikori 1 defeating Kikori 2, 79–66, in a fast-paced, high-intensity match. Kikori 2’s journey to the finals—toppling both the host team Alotau Men and Kerema Men—was one of the tournament’s most compelling stories.

Men’s Finals MVP was awarded to Adam Maikai of Kikori 1, while Ipai Willie of Kikori 2 walked away with Top Points Scorer and Overall Best Performer, showcasing the depth of talent in the region.

Community Spirit and Official Endorsement
The championship wasn’t just about basketball—it was a celebration of community, unity, and regional pride. The event saw high-profile attendance, including Hon. Rickey Morris, Open Member for Alotau, and the Provincial Administrator, who both delivered inspiring remarks. Their joint announcement of new infrastructure development for the Alotau Basketball Association marks a major milestone for the sport in Milne Bay and promises greater opportunities for youth involvement and talent development.

President of the Basketball Federation, Mr. David Peter, added weight to the event’s significance, stating:
“The regional competitions are second-tier competition. These competitions should be an intermediary avenue for our national development programs…district and provincial competitions should feed into the regional competitions and then into the national championships and that’s how selections should be done.”
AHO Alotau’s Role as Sponsor
As one of the proud sponsors, ABLE Home & Office Alotau contributed merchandise and prizes that were awarded to Champion Teams, MVPs, and the event committee. It was an honour to be part of such a dynamic and well-organized tournament that not only promotes sport but strengthens community ties.
