UPS  – Uninteruptible Power Supply

 

 

Purpose of UPS

  • It provides power when there is brownout
  • Gives the user enough time to properly shutdown their computers or devices
  • Protects computers or devices from voltage fluctuations

Two Types of UPS

  • Online UPS    –       Power supply comes from the battery even there is supply from the GPO/Outlet, This means no switching when there is power failure.
  • Offline UPS   –        Power Supply comes from the GPO/Outlet and switch to battery upon Power failure.
  • Rates of UPS

  • VA – Volt Ampere    –     UPS rate when no load
  • 600VA, 800VA, 1000VA etc
  • Wattage  –   UPS rate when there is load
  • 300 Watts, 500 Watts, 800 Watts
  • Choosing UPS rate of a Device

  • UPS should be higher than the device
  • Example:
  • 90 watts device/laptop
  •  UPS should be higher
  • 300 watts   –  15 mins 500watts   –  25 mins

 

  • The Bigger the UPS the better
