UPS – Uninteruptible Power Supply
Purpose of UPS
- It provides power when there is brownout
- Gives the user enough time to properly shutdown their computers or devices
- Protects computers or devices from voltage fluctuations
Two Types of UPS
- Online UPS – Power supply comes from the battery even there is supply from the GPO/Outlet, This means no switching when there is power failure.
- Offline UPS – Power Supply comes from the GPO/Outlet and switch to battery upon Power failure.

Rates of UPS
- VA – Volt Ampere – UPS rate when no load
- 600VA, 800VA, 1000VA etc
- Wattage – UPS rate when there is load
- 300 Watts, 500 Watts, 800 Watts

Choosing UPS rate of a Device
- UPS should be higher than the device
- Example:
- 90 watts device/laptop
- UPS should be higher
- 300 watts – 15 mins 500watts – 25 mins

The Bigger the UPS the better
