OPC Drum is the heart of most laser printers, OPC stands for organic photoconductor Drum, It is sensitive to any form of light and it is capable of holding negative electrical charge. With this characteristics it was being used to produce image to most of laser printers.
Let’s see how does OPC drum function in laser printers;
There are fifth levels in producing image that are being utilize using the OPC drum in a laser printer. The first level is charging, the OPC drum is being equally loaded with negatively charge by a charge unit.

Second level is by charge eraser. The negatively charge that are being loaded to the OPC drum are discharge by applying direct light to the surface of the OPC drum. In laser printer the LSU is responsible in doing this task. the result of applying laser to the OPC drum is now called the latent image.

Third level is Developing OPC Drum. with the latent image being form, toners are now applied to the OPC drum. Toners are positively charge and it is attracted to the negative charge in the surface of the OPC drum.

Forth is the transfer. By applying negatively charge which is higher that the charge in the drum, the toners are now being transferred, in laser printer case the toners are transferred to the paper.
Fifth level is the discharging of the OPC drum. The latent image of the drum will de erase by directly exposing the OPC drum into the light, in this case a series of LED are directly expose to the OPC drum.
And the cycle of the OPC drum starts again.
