When you should use it?
Each ports has its particular usage. Therefore, if ever you missed out the exact port that is used for your printer, you might encounter issues like print glitches.
In this blog, I’m going to share you some of the identified printer ports and when you must use it
COM1
This is a used for legacy printer through serial interface. Because of its slow transmission times and compatibility issues, serial printer has been replaced by the USB Printer.
USB 001
This is the default printer port for USB printers and the first printer port windows selects via the operating system’s Devices and Printer under “Add a Printer” utility.
USB 002
This is commonly seen on Virtual Machines or RDP session and this is visible when USB001 is already in use with another USB Printer.
This port works the same as USB001, the only difference is you can only use this port on a printer running in a virtual session.
LPT
This stands for Line Printer Terminal which is commonly used by IBM compatible computer to connect printers with parallel port such as LPT1, LPT2 or LPT3
LPD/LPR
Line Printer Daemon/Line Printer Remote Protocol is a network protocol which is frequently used by printers to submit a printing job remotely.
