An approach to instill early knowledge of Mind Your Own Business (MYOB) software to the students was taken by Kopkop College through conducting a training to the former and current students as well as teachers.
The one-day session was held at the school campus at Gerehu and was facilitated by certified MYOB consultant Mr. Sarath Kumar. He (Kumar) provided insights to the students on how to understand and use the MYOB Student Edition Software and data entry process.
Kopkop College is the first school in the country to introduce such training for its students. Usually, such training is offered to corporate organizations, at a cost, to up-skill their financial officers on how to use the new accounting software.
Since the school is the first to introduce such training for its students, Mr. Kumar said they ran the training for free to help the students get the practical exposure of how to use MYOB.
Speaking to EMTV Online, Kumar said they have vision to reach more Papua New Guineans so they have access to the latest technology to be able to be competitive in the business world both within and outside the country.
“The purpose of us introducing such training to schools is to help the students get an experience in using the MYOB software and in a way help them to have a competitive advantage over other students when they go to tertiary institutions or even entering employment.
“Not only will they be better prepared for tertiary education or employment, they will also be able to manage their own businesses using the software. As long as you have the software and know the data entry process, you don’t have to hire an account or financial professional to run your business,” Kumar said.
Kumar added that the software is a much easier way to keep track of your business transactions and be updated with your tax returns and your profits or losses.
After participating in the training, Grade 12 business student, Sabina Buskens who came back after graduation said she found the MYOB software easier than what they have learnt in class.
“In class, we had to draw up different tables and write down all the data. With MYOB you just enter the data and it automatically links all the accounting process together,” Buskens said.
The MYOB Student Edition contains everything students need to get their accounting skills up to speed, including several versions of MYOB Student Edition.
Meanwhile, on Monday (November 6, 2017), more than 20 participants had graduated with MYOB certificates.
